Cancer Changes Everything!

Dave Paylor dedicates the Harris bear to Dr Blair Peirce

7 March 2018

Dr. Blair Pierce, a volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society who retired from family practice in London in 2016 provided an overview of the services offered.  Transportation for patients, stop smoking support, research, peer support and reliable information are regular offerings.  This month the focus is on Colon Cancer.  There were 26,800 new cases of colon cancer diagnosed in 2017. When found early, 90% are treatable.  5% of polyps become cancerous if not removed.  After a discussion with the family doctor those aged 50-74 may be asked to use a Fecal Occult Blood Test kit at home. Depending on the lab result a colonoscopy may be ordered.

Many questions were answered by Dr. Pierce who encouraged others to volunteer Cancer Society and for everyone to support the April daffodil campaign.
