President-Elect Trish asked whether the Club would support having at least some summer meetings at members’ homes, either at noon or in the evening, and received assurance that there were no objections.  Davey and Gwen Moffatt have offered to host the August 15 meeting at noon, but hosts are sought for the July 25 and August 29 meetings.  Are you interested?  Trish also noted that Trudy Kanellis would meet with the convenor of the July 13 Seniors Picnic in the Park to see if there might be an opportunity for the Rotary Food Trailer to make an appearance. 

Youth Services Director Trudy, of course, had a good many things to tell us about the ever-active Interact Club.  One was their Car Wash to be held Saturday, June 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lube Clinic.   More teddy bears are to be purchased for donation to the Women’s Shelter.  Two Interactors will be attending the District Conference this weekend.  Ron Somerville has generously volunteered to drive them to and from Owen Sound.  The Interactors are having fun, too, planning their year-end party (probably at Trudy’s house) and getting coasters ready for Fire Chief Don Crocker’s retirement party at the St. Anne Centre this Saturday.  Items made from decommissioned fire hose will be sold at the Interactors’ table at the Fire Muster later this year.  Our Rotary Club is invited to join them.

 

Director Pat Martyn reminded us that remaining funds in the International Service budget had been directed to the Fort McMurray Fire Relief Fund ($400) and to Shelter Box Canada ($750), the latter in memory of former Rotary Youth Exchange student Dani Cimera.   Director Dave Payler stated that a cheque would be sent to the YMCA to assist in bussing children to camp on July 1, as funds in this year’s Community Service budget have already been spent.  Rotaserver editor Paul Blower thanked those members of the Club who had lent their assistance in the past year.  President Nancy urged Club members to make use of MyRotary, and observed, on behalf of Secretary Suzanne Ferguson, that the Club had met its membership goal for the year.    Club Service Director Ron Somerville announced that the Changeover Meeting to install the new Club Board would take place on Monday, July 11 in the East Pavilion of Pinafore Park (5:30 p.m., social, for a 6 p.m. meeting start; price TBA).   Brenda Merrifield, as the new owner, offered to host future Changeover Meetings at Sandam, thereby restoring a former Club tradition.  With summer coming up, Ron advised Club members not to forget that they could “make up” meetings at any Rotary club in the world; the RI website (www.rotary.org) is a good place to look for meeting times and places.  Donations to Rotary International need to be in by next week in order to be credited for the 2015-16 year.  Trudy Kanellis has taken charge of Happy Fin donations.    THRILL TO THE EXCITING CONCLUSION….President Nancy welcomed guest Chris Willson, son of Sergeant-at-Arms Ed Willson….She also passed on the great news that Dave Payler’s daughter has successfully undergone open-heart surgery in Newmarket….There has been a change in next week’s meeting.  The breakfast meeting with members of other service clubs has been cancelled, and, instead, we will be meeting at the Wayside (in the bar area) at 12 noon for a regular Club meeting.  It is possible that this meeting will include the induction of a new Club member into Rotary.    There is no meeting on June 20; instead we will meet on the evening of Tuesday, June 21, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. for our annual Volunteer Appreciation Evening at the CASO Railway Station.  There is no cost, but please RSVP by June 16 to either trishshouldice@sympatico.ca or nancylovelock@execulink.com.... On June 27, our regular 12 p.m. Club meeting at the Wayside will be cancelled, and, instead, we will be going to the CASO Railway Station on the evening of the same day (June 27) for the District (6330) Governor Changeover Evening, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. ( 6-7 p.m., social).  Tickets can be purchased online at www.railwaycityrotary.club by Friday, June 17 at $35 per person.  DG-Elect Diane Chantler, sponsored by the St. Thomas Rotary Club, wrote President Nancy to thank the Club for making this opportunity possible for her.    For the second week in a row, the individual selected to pick the winning 50-50 ticket has selected her own ticket.  This week, the Rotary gods smiled on Trudy Kanellis. Uncanny!… Sergeant-At-Arms Ed Willson fined himself for wearing his name badge upside-down.   Fine Master Malcolm Rust conducted a “Basic Rotary” quiz focussed on RI Conventions. Next year’s is in Atlanta from June 10-14; Brenda Merrifield expressed an interest in attending the Atlanta convention and wondered if anyone else was intending to go.
