15Dec22Christmas Party at Senior's Centre
The season for giving!

Barbara opened with O Canada, toast to King and country, toast to RI, and the 4-Way Test, see group assembled (ignore the display by Lion's Club)

Malcolm spoke an opening reflection:
Once again ...
We live with plenty, in a world of need
We are living peacefully, in a war-torn world
We are free to dissent, in a world where many are punished and killed when they protest
We enjoy our homes, when many are homeless and refugees
We are healthy, when many are sick and suffering
Help us never to forget
Help us always to be thankful.

Guests this evening were: Elaine Catchpole, Faye Ferguson, Kathy Willson, Shirley Smith, Mark Wales and Martha Lowen,  Marco Valdez Sr, Marco Jr, Jessica, Donna Rust, George Martyn, Paul Blower,  Paul Lovelock. (See below)

Assistant Governor Area 10 and Past President Gerry spoke eloquently about the role of Rotary and the Paul Harris designation; we are now a 100% Paul Harris Club. He then handed over to Pat and Barbara to present 2 Paul Harris recipients.
Pat also spoke eloquently about Faye Ferguson's contribution to the Rotary Club of St. Thomas and our Foundation. Faye's contribution was the seed money for our donation to the Hospice of Elgin. Pat wants to learn from Faye how to play a  better bridge game. (see below)

President Barbara presented a Paul Harris award to Treasurer Mary Morin (below).

Susie McAllister-Bee and son Tommy warmed up the room as we sang Christmas songs and carols. (below)

Foreground below: Catharine and Gerry smiled as they recalled their meal while
Ron thanked our hosts who were dressed in white.
Ron also performed an admirable job as Sargeant-at-Arms in keeping the
finances straightened out and arranging payment for the meal.  As well, the
Club donated a gratuity for our cooks/ servers in honour of their service since
we have started meeting at the Seniors' Centre

We made donations under the Christmas tree to The Inn (below, photos compliments of Trudy and our Facebook)
We donated: 4 packs of detergent pods, 4 large and small packs of granola bars, 1 big of sugar,
5 packs of paper, 3 packs of cups, 4 large packs of napkins, 5 packs of cutlery, personal care items, many types of coffee,
3 packs of team and 2 boxes of cereal. The Inn is most grateful.

Trish delivered the gifts to Brian Elliot, new director of The Inn; you may recall when he spoke to us about Habitat for Humanity (Below)

Kathy Willson won the 50/50 draw and passed the $28 back to the Club.

Gerry conducted a rousing game of "Christmas Jeopardy"; who knew that the capital
of Christmas Island is "the Settlement"? And do you recall the name of George Bailey's angel?
Clarence. Catherine kept the tally and Team #2 won handily.

Our special guests Faye Ferguson, Elaine Catchpole, Shirley Smith and Kathy Willson each
sported a Christmas corsage, arranged by Nancy Lovelock who also brought our
floral centrepieces.  The snow ferns were given as door prizes to: Martha Lowen, Cindy Benning, George
Martin and Marco Valdez Jr.

Barbara closed the meeting with writings from Paul Harris.
