Katie Payler, Manager of the YMCA in St. Thomas has been appointed to a Regional responsibility for 2 other YMCAs. Sofia is from the Regional office in London. They thanked the club for its support, spoke of the excellent program offered and illustrated the benefits offered members.

WE LEARNED that the YM has 4600 members and the facility is used by 800-1000 every day! The club has donated $7,300 since 2011 which provided membership fee assistance and program busing. About 190 youth attend the Friday night youth event. 60% of them are not YM members. In addition to the health benefits of programs some find their involvement transforming, they socialize, feel supported and make this a hub in the community.

PRESIDENT NANCY welcomed back Brenda Merrifield and Gerard Janssen and welcomed Kathy Willson and Maggie Horn to the meeting. Gerry visited Sun City Centre RC in Florida. The 2017 World Tubing Championships will be held this Saturday (12-9pm) and Sunday (10-9pm) on Bush Line near Sunset. The club will be selling hot dogs and hot chocolate. A shuttle bus from Elgin Mall will leave every 30 minutes. Setup Saturday at 10am. Rotary Music Festival 21st -24th February. Again, volunteers are needed. Reading Buddies will be needed for March each Thursday at 4pm. On Saturday 25th March we will sponsor H2O 4 Everyone with a walk on the track at the Timken Centre in support of World Water Day. Pat and George are celebrating the birth of another grandson!

Suzanne Ferguson was the winner of 50/50. The member’s fine this week was to appreciate the President’s distribution of Valentine candy!

HAPPY FINS- Donations of $5 to The Rotary Foundation – Annual Programs Fund – credited to the donor in celebration of something good in our lives. This practice was started in this club in 1985 to raise funds for polio eradication at the suggestion of Darwen Lowe, a member of the club.
