Proud of Mandy Howarth(2006 to Brazil), Brii Beaty

at an Information Meeting 22 Aug 2018.

Numbers are not Everything - Malcolm Rust

A great time of fun and sharing was enjoyed by a small group of members.  The topics varied widely!  It sounds as if the new owners will still allow the sales of Rotary bears. We discussed the upcoming Tour of Homes and especially the 4th house recently made available by Doug Tarry Homes Ltd. for which we are very grateful.  We watched Trudy as she ate breakfast and then Nick joined us for a while and talked about what life is like for them now and how they may travel. Trudy said she had recently heard advertisements for Rotary on FM94.1  and wondered who had taken than initiative.  They are well done. It was suggested that we run an advert in the TJ and ECM for 2 weeks before the Rotary Showcase to catch the attention of a wider circle of prospective Rotarians. There was talk of planning a special community event. Malcolm and 3 of our past outbound Rotary Youth Exchange students will attend the Information Meeting at the RCRC this evening as they plan to start a RYE program. They are recruiting now for departure August 2019. Do you know any senior high school students who might like this unique opportunity to learn a new culture and language? There will also be a need to recruit at least 3 host families in St. Thomas.  We discussed the Golf Classic to be held by the Hospital Foundation on Friday 7 September and decided the notice was too short notice for the club this year.   Gerry shared a poem he wrote as an 8yr old boy in Holland and which has recently surfaced during a search of attic treasures.  We dispensed with the formal opening, fines, 50/50 and HappyFins.  The 50/50 tickets purchased will be entered into next week's draw.

Next week we will have another time of informal sharing at The Wayside 12.15pm  Hopefully more members will join the discussion.
