Barbara spoke to us about Classification Catechism. Classification of potential member job positions as a requirement for entry into Rotary seems passe , but in 1920 Herald Rogers after World War One was rejected from Rotary because he had a family member in the club in the same job classification that he was in. This problem did not seem to be recognised or resolved until about 1937 when job classifications where published for Rotarians in the “Outline of Classifications” that Baraba gave us to peruse. That meant that the number of job , career, or professional classifications expanded tremendously in order to be more inclusive; we would hardly recognise the job names listed in this book. There are positions that were available in the thirties that we would not recognize today.
to demonstrate that Barbara gave us a quiz about some job classifications from the thirties. The following are some job, career, professional positions that were posted in the classification catechism. See if you can recognise what they represent:
Horology
Disinfectant Services
Refractory Materials manufacturing
Raw bums distributing
Waiste distributing
Box shook manufacturing
Casing head plants (well source)
Papeterie manufacturing
Seri Culture
Flax scutching and hackling
The answers are at the end of this newsletter.
