25Nov20 The Shadow Pandemic
Announcements (mostly from President Gerry's notes)

The Shadow Pandemic
  • Rotary is promoting the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
  • Since the outbreak of COVID-19, emerging data and reports from those on the front lines, have shown that all types of violence against women and girls, particularly domestic violence, has intensified. This is the Shadow Pandemic growing amidst the COVID-19 crisis and we need a global collective effort to stop it. As COVID-19 cases continue to strain health services, essential services, such as domestic violence shelters and helplines, have reached capacity. More needs to be done to prioritize addressing violence against women in COVID-19 response and recovery efforts.
  • UN Women provides up-to-date information and support to vital programmes to fight the Shadow Pandemic of violence against women during COVID-19.

Interactors were at work painting the Salvation Army. See facebook pictures Gerry shared:
This is tricky to paint freehand, but the secret is to have a projector with the outline as in the picture below:
  • 1. Received note from Pat Martyn. George’s sister, Margaret Ferguson passed away. Members recalled their time with her.
  • 2 Rotaract Canada thank you note. One year ago, our club contributed to Rotaract Canada; they sent a card of thanks.
  • 3 thank you from Diane Chantler for donation of $250 to the Railway City Rotary Club for their Totes for Teens, and other community projects for Christmas.
  • 4 cheque presentations pictures will be in “This Month in Elgin”.
  • 5. Also received a call from Scott Carrie (pres of RCRC). They are floating the idea of putting up lights at the Rotary splashpad for the drive by Christmas parade.
