Club reports of all the great things we are doing (it's hard to be humble):
1-President Mark, our club is looking for younger people (less than 50 years age , more diverse membership that reflects the community, more men). We are planning donations to Indwell, Hospital fundraiser for MRI. Our club was Paul Harris 100% club 22-23. We donated to Hospice Elgin.
2- Past President Barbara. Our income from Jackpot City will be about $26000/yr that will result in donations to organizations in Ontario.
3- Past President Gerry, past Assistant Governor, Area 10, now membership committee. Will peruse model documents from Mike Chaffee re new models for membership.
4- Secretary Stew- webmaster, Rotoserver publisher, recording secretary, setup zoom meetings
5- Trish Club Service- Changeover, special events
6- Cindy – International : $8800 to Amarock, funds to Tanzania/Club of Arusha in cooperation with Rotary in Netherlands, funding smoke free stoves Guatamala in cooperation with Stratford Rotary Club, fund back to school project in the Phillipines with Collingwood Rotary Club. Her documentation will go to ClubRunner record system
7- Adrianna: Environment - funds to Solar Cookers Africa and now Nicaragua, funds to First Nations Georgian Bay for clean water based from organization in Creemore Ontario, work with Kettle Creek Conservation authority re cleanup of Lake Margaret (upcoming cleaning 16Sep23 with other clubs), work with city St Thomas re cleanup of trails Orchard Park (were awarded $100 town dollars that goes to Inn out of the Cold), funds for pamphlet distribution at Hawk Cliff.
8-Catharine: Discovery Tour replaces Tour of Homes. Raises funds. It’s a car rally day trip without being a race, multiple waypoints of interest with prizes, quizzes, photo contest 50/50 draw, evaluation. Entry $35 at Ferguson’s RV, Sunday 1Oct23, get your map on registration.
9- Mary; new account at Libro takes revenue from Jackpot City and Discovery tour ticket revenue coming from the website. Last of funds from TD will go to Libro.
10- Trudy; gave sample dictionary to Doug Tarry. Students at local schools love to receive them because there are pictures. It’s a great way to promote club. The Interactors are mirroring what we do. She is chair of Foundation.
11-Joanne, member at large: spearhead connections with Ukrainian family new to St Thomas.
12- Pat Martyn has an ambitious plan for community projects, her plan is also included in CR documentation.

Gerry introduced Sonja Glass to Club: Before membership, Sonja hosted many Rotary Youth Exchange Students. That rubbed off on her children who became comfortable being in and around other cultures. Sonja retired 2017 as a health care leader in Meaford. She and her husband have focused their Rotary efforts on health care in Tanzania. It takes 2 days to get to the island in Lake Victoria where they serve. We saw a picture of hundreds of Tanzanian nationals ready to receive health care, Sonja triaged the most severe cases (1/2 of the group) for treatment. Sonja and her husband set up 7 clean water wells that were designed to remove Schistosomiasis parasites that cause gastrointestinal problems in large numbers (their son engineered the design). Residents pay 6 cents per month to maintain the equipment. They worked in an orphanage and a neonatal facility. They saw huge changes in community health; there were fewer gastrointestinal infections, and people were living longer so blood vessel hypertension appeared for the first time. There is less violence because women need not travel long distances to get clean water. Unwanted pregnancies became less prominent.
Sonja is past club secretary and President of the Rotary Club of Meaford. Today Meaford Rotarians bought a church, which houses a food bank and thrift shop. Plans are underway for the building to become a community Hub.
Sonja told us about ourselves; Our club has given $153621 to RI since its charter date 24May50. $502496 went to RI from the District 6330 this year.
RI president Gordon McNally has brought the theme of Hope to Rotary. We are asked to engage one another and all serve others. He is calling for an open and inclusive conversation while we generate new ideas and perspectives. Rotary is an extraordinary opportunity to impact for good in people's lives.
Re District 6330 Strategic Plan; the DEI committee does not know how to handle the issue, sound familiar? The District would like to meet with us starting end of September to discuss our Vision. The Ontario Policing Act established a Commission of Safety and Well-Being; Sonja believes we should investigate how we can participate. Trudy has connections already.
Sonja is planning for next year's District Conference in Owen Sound Ontario starting 21June23. She wants to bring a trophy back to Ontario. The theme will be “Plant a Seed”.
Gerry introduced Doug Tarry and summarized some of his achievements
- Project Tiny Hope, a 3-day build for a low-income family
- Construction of the elevated park
Sonja Presented a Paul Harris pin and certificate to Doug Tarry (see pic)
Doug spoke about the severity of the Housing Crisis. The leader of the local Oneida indigenous community is suffering from diabetes. He is in need of housing, so Doug is considering how he can help. He has a book to be released called “Doug’s Boot Camp” re building a net zero home, safe and built better, and affordable to all. Tiny Hope plans to build 40 units in 1.5 years without government help.
Sonja presented a 22-23 Citation to Past President Barbara that speaks of the quality of work the club has done in the past year; less than ¼ of district clubs get this citation. See Pic:
