On Wednesday, we welcomed Steven Fine via Zoom as our speaker.
Steve is a member of the Rotary Club of Peabody, Massachusetts. He is the founder and president of the Melanoma Education Foundation. Shortly after his don, Dan, died of melanoma in 1998 at the age of 26, he founded the non-profit foundation and, since 2000, has devoted full time to the Foundation. The Foundation educated high school and middle school wellness teachers about melanoma. In 2022 outreach was expanded to US and Canadian Rotary clubs in Eastern and Atlantic time zones.
Steve's presentation was succinct and comprehensive. He will be sending the links to the presentation at a future date so that we may all share them with family and friends.
Melanoma can be a fatal form of cancer if not caught early and detection is the first step to curing it. The presentation provided graphic examples of what to look for and when to seek medical intervention. "When in doubt, cut it out".
Those links will be sent as soon as they are available.
President Mark donated $100 to the fund raising campaign started by New Sarum PS student, Annie, to provide healthy snacks for the students there as they did not receive a grant this year to cover those costs. Annie sold her 4-leaf clover key chains on Facebook and in one night raised $300. $90 came from passing a hat at an Optimist meeting that same night. Trudy will present the donation when she attends New Sarum to present dictionaries next Thursday.
$90 was given in Happy Fins this week.
Gerry won the 50/50 draw
