23Feb22 Petrusia Hontar-Experiences of Discrimination
Malcolm introduced Petrusia Hontar of STELIP (St Thomas Elgin Local Immigration Partnership). Because she is of Ukrainian descent, our hearts are heavy with concern for her family.
She reported at a previous meeting about the Experiences of Discrimination Survey. This survey is one of 8 in the Region. The term Immigrant and Visible Minority essentially refer to the same concept, that is someone not born in Canada and/or who immigrated to Canada.  The term “White non immigrant” refers to Caucasians born in Canada. She noted that only 3 people from the Low German speaking population in East Elgin (having 45 local churches) participated in the survey.  A new Community Festival celebrating cultural diversity is planned for later in the year.
Please see the Screenshots below to see her recommendations for our club to help reduce discrimination.
