6May2020 Interesting Activities to do during COVID 19 lockdown

Barbara led a show and tell about what we are doing during lockdown:

Adriana – Reading

Gerry - Eating dinner earlier in the evening and contacting people more often

Connie – walking, biking on the Simcoe trails, connecting with sisters , yoga, meditation

Mary - a little disappointed that there is no ACT Theatre going on but she's reading her 7th novel now (many of them tomes of 500 pages or more).

Trish - cleaning the tile grout, propagating spider plants to give away, (she showed Mama spider). Bill and Maggie expressed interest in a plant and Gerry thought we could auction them

Trudy is planting a vegetable garden, she shampooed the carpet after her wet basement incident; she showed her acrylic paintings on canvas which are very pretty.

Malcolm - Time is an extension of his retirement, he biked to Port Stanley and got dusty from dirt blowing off the fields, (Donna picked him up there), he reads, and does Zoom and FaceTime and Skype with family in England .

Ron is making a list, he gardens, went to Ilderton to pick up fish for his pond, he reads and watches TED talks, suggests we could learn another language. The book ‘Les Miserables’ can soak up a lot of time. He is interested in the topic of magnetic poles switching on our planet.

Bill and Maggie - Life is also like an extension of his retirement. He goes walking, gardening, picking dandelions talking across the street; he and Maggie know the neighbours across the street better than they did before; Maggie made brownies and is taking appointments to have them picked up.
Maggie misses church and eating at restaurants.

Pat is cleaning the house and raking outside but George quit. The tree trimmers are coming; like Trish she is cleaning the grout and the tiles using baking soda and vinegar. She enjoys bird watching on the computer and YouTube. She is baking so George gained weight. There are bald Eagles near the road on the way to Port Bruce that they have been keeping an eye on and can see at least one hatchling.

Stew – YouTube, CBC Gem, writing, gardening, listening to music, walking, Bible Study, Zoom with family and others, helping Trish order groceries online.

Barbara likes Patrick Stewart reading sonnets, Broadway musicals and calling people. She also likes thegreatcoursesplus.com because they provide lots of lectures on many interesting topics. See the link below to get lots of ideas about activities for you to do:

East Coast Kitchen Party will be virtual 30May20.
The Annual Convention will be virtual.
Seminar 12May20 re planning for District Grants

District Conference- Gerry is accepting pictures of members wearing Rotary googly glasses to submit to the contest at the conference. We could get a cash prize for the club. Interactors have applied for a separate entry and have their write-up ready to go.

We received a thank you card from Bob Warnoch regarding our contribution for Lexan to make face shields for first line workers. 106 have been delivered and there is an order for 85 more. The cheque to Aylmer Glass was not for $300 as proposed last week but for $150 as they are not intending to profit from making shields.

Weed MD may speak to us next week.

On Tuesday, May 19 The Rotary Satellite Club of London is hosting a virtual trivia night, and you're invited! Whether from your couch, your deck, or your favourite chair, put your brain to the test with questions that will challenge you and your team!

Teams can be up to 5 players, and they don't have to be in the same household.

Proceeds will support Habitat for Humanity and the great work they do in London and the surrounding area. A Habitat home is a stabilizing force for a family. Better, affordable living conditions lead to improved health, stronger childhood development and the ability — and financial flexibility — to make forward-looking choices.

Tickets: $40 per team (up to 5 members per team)

Gerry and a couple other people are expecting to attend Trivia night

A very pleasant meeting. Thanks to Gerry and Barbara.
