Students who attended
  • Rotary Youth leadership weekend at Western
  • Citizenship week arranged by the RC of Ottawa
Isabelle Dodd (Parkside Collegiate Institute) will be President of our Interact Club in September.  She attended the Citizenship week in Ottawa offered by the Rotary Club of Ottawa. From the time she met other students at the airport she experienced a most amazing, fun trip.  They stayed at the University of Ottawa instead of with local Rotary families this year.  She would have liked more time at the War Museum. They met the Clerk of the House of Commons and learned about his role before going to a French-Canadian dinner. They met a Senator and then a Member of Parliament and heard from them. They learned about a centre for conflict management. A tour of the University of Ottawa proved very interesting to Isabelle.  She took part in a talent night with the other youth. A Citizenship Ceremony for 46 people from 16 different countries was both emotional and welcoming. The closing ceremony of the Citizenship week was by a group of Indigenous Canadians.  Isabelle thanked the club.

Danielle Redman (St. Joseph’s High School) and Ryleigh Brayman (Saunders, London) who will be Treasurer of our Interact Club in September, attended the leadership workshop at Western called the Seminar for Tomorrow’s Leaders.  Danielle described it as an “amazing experience” where she made many new friends.  The days were filled with inspiring speakers and games that taught about leadership skills and moving out of ones comfort zone.  They had a semi-formal dance. Danielle experienced being blindfolded for a time during which she had to eat lunch of tacos! She thanked the club.
