For their protection, the participants will not be named (thats a joke). Announcements: Club Board Meeting Zoom Monday, January 23⋅7:00 – 8:00pm From Malcolm: Our outbound Rotary Youth Exchange student, Marissa MacGillivary went to Brazil 2010-2011. Marissa is the daughter of Scott of Scott’s Printing on Talbot Street who has handled a lot of printing for Rotary. Recently we learned that Marissa became engaged to Adam DiFilippo whose parents have property in the Turks & Caicos Islands(see pic). Also from Malcolm Thanking us for the support through Amarok : Introduction of Akhi Akter Mabel Bennett Mothers’ School Labor Union Colony Khulna, Bangladesh ....We live in a slum, maintain a low-cost livelihood but I want to live with dignity, respect and love. This is why I’m learning in Mother School and teaching little children..... Traditionally in our society learning something from the wife is not considered as a good thing by a husband. Men believe they are top, will lead and guide women. I must agree that my husband did not dominate me strongly but the truth is he had some attitudes as traditional men of our society which have been lessened in the recent times after my education and sharing my learning with him..... 25 mothers study in our Mother School. In our community our identity is ‘mother-teacher’. Every mother in our school teaches 5 children. I attend Amarok Mother School for two hours daily except the weekends. 25 mothers study here to develop reading, writing and mathematical skills, social awareness, health care and to know about child development. We come here to learn to educate ourselves and to educate the neighborhood children including our own..... 1 Parosh Boy 8 Able to read & write 2 Ojifa (my Girl 5 Good at drawing) 3 Samia Girl 6 Sings well and good at drawing 4 Palash Boy 10 Good handwriting 5 Meem Girl 7 Very good at reciting poems and can sing English (See 2pics) From President Barbara: EVERYONE MUST do the online before they are allowed to volunteer. This is tracked by OGC so they know if you have or haven't done it. Also, everyone must BE ON TIME. The Board of Directors felt that "a teaching moment" should be granted as this was our first shift, however, I doubt that will be the case in the future. We cannot afford to let this opportunity be taken away from us so let's play by the rules and make sure that the Rotary Club of St. Thomas receives funding for many years to come. From RI: |
