Visitors today are Catharine and Maggie.

We talked about setting a format for weekly meetings. Barbara will find a speaker for next week. Virtual Happy Finns were discussed. This shows that we can adapt to situations that arise around us. Gerry sent a picture of last week’s meeting to District but did not hear back.

The Music Festival Keynotes concert is postponed.
Seminar for Tomorrow’s Leaders cancelled
Citizenship event in Ottawa cancelled

The District conducts Zoom meetings Mondays at 7pm, open any members using your home computer or device. Linking information is found on District 6330 website.

Gerry started a round table so each of us could report about our situation. Stew started a trend by attending with a Rotary hat given to him by Ed Willson. Others quickly showed their shirts or ran to their closets to get T-shirts or jackets. Catharine quoted the Dahli Lama; leaders around the world are putting aside partisan politics to make isolation work to save lives and flatten the curve and reduce the burden on hospital facilities. Even Trump seems to be in favour of this plan. For Barb, these virtual meetings are the highlight of her week. She quoted a Ken Dryden poem. Gerry was on a walk and saw an Auto Guys sign that said “If on walking outside, you can smell someone else’s flatus, you are too close to them”. Advise: stay up wind. Trish and Stew like to go for a walk late at night when no one is outside. They share groceries with Ed and Kathy, and check on them daily by phone. Bill’s grandson says marinas are being converted to hospitals. He wondered if there will be a spike of divorces. Malcolm reported he had an allergic reaction to shrimp after his second meal of same. Our sympathies go out to him. Ron feels lucky because he can work in isolation in a shop. Gerry expressed his concern about running out of toilet paper by showing a cartoon of a man screaming “goodbye cruel world” while being flushed down the toilet. Adriana’s niece Anna in NY city reports that she has stood in long lines for groceries and can see the temporary hospital in Manhattan park. Catharine reported her son is part of setting up a make-shift hospital in western Canada on a military base – he is a medic. Connie is looking after her Fire Chief husband. Her daughter in the west is a nurse doing mandatory overtime and is worn out. Their agreement for dealing with Covid is to not talk about it unless her daughter opens the topic. Connie is in charge of telling jokes and keeping  a positive tone. Mary’s step-daughter, Michelle, in Sudbury, has symptoms and is in home isolation. Trish reports that Nancy and Paul are out of isolation and well.  They take Rosie for walks and help neighbours who are house bound. Trudy delivered pizza for OPP; a great way to show support! She was involved with first responders parade past hospital. This is my first time to hear personal reports about the Covid infection from people we know and it is very sobering!
